The American paint manufacturer manages again and again to produce the most beautiful colors. The Pantone Matching System (PMS) was developed in 1963 by Lawrence Herbert, founder of Pantone LLC. Herbert was looking for a color system that made it possible to standardize colors with numbers: the PMS color fan was born. For example, the Pantone XY looks exactly the same everywhere on the globe, and every printer, graphic designer, etc. knows which color is desired by the customer. Since 2007, Pantone LLC is a subsidiary of X-Rite, Incorporated.
Meanwhile, the Pantone colors can be found not only on the papers and packaging of printers, but also on cups (see picture), in architecture, fashion, on metal lampshades, on walls, etc. The world does not seem to get enough of Pantone , And best of all, there are always new colors added. Pantone 17-4123 Niagara, among others, among the trend colors of the spring of 2017, said: “Niagara is a classic, jeans-like blue that expresses our desire for calm and relaxation.” As already mentioned, Pantone works in many fields.
For us as an online print shop, the “Pantone Plus Series” is interesting, today’s version of the Pantone Matching System. The Formula Guide set contains two color boxes with 1,867 colors – both on coated and uncoated paper. In addition to the color numbers, the ink formulations are also printed, so that every online print company knows how to best achieve the colors when printing. Pantone 3564 U consists for example of Pantone Orange 021, Pantone Yellow 012 and Pantone Black. CMYK has no business here.
